Ikon hosts the launch of David Lodge’s second memoir Writer’s Luck. Born in January 1935, David Lodge was four when World War II began and grew up through decades of great social and cultural change. Unlike his first memoir, Quite A Good Time To Be Born, which covered the first forty years of his life, this one deals with only the next fifteen, because they were especially interesting and eventful for him, and he possessed a considerable archive of letters and diaries from which he was able to recover a detailed memory of his life in that period.
Readers of Lodge’s novels will be fascinated by the insights this book gives – not only into his professional career but also more personal experience. The main focus, however, is on writing as a vocation. Anyone who is interested in learning about the creative process, about the dual nature of the novel as both work of art and commodity, will find Writer’s Luck a candid and entertaining guide. David Lodge will be in conversation with Jonathan Davidson, Chief Executive of Writing West Midlands.
This event includes a book signing and is organised in collaboration with Writing West Midlands and Random House. Please book online or call Ikon Shop on 0121 248 0711. Please note that online booking closes at 5pm on Thursday 25 January.
