Portrait of Frankley
In response to the exhibition New Street by Swiss artist Beat Streuli at Ikon in Autumn 2012, parents from Deelands Hall Stay and Play group worked with local photographers Craig Bush and Jane Baker to develop their camera skills and to create their own Portrait of Frankley. The parents and children explored how they use and negotiate space both inside the hall and within their homes, and outdoors, making images of the green areas and routes around Frankley that are often forgotten or not appreciated.
A selection of photographs made during this project were displayed at Frankley Library during the summer of 2013 with ten permanently installed images on the windows within the library. A family day to celebrate the launch of the showcase provided the participants with an opportunity to photograph local residents to be included in their Portrait of Frankley.
