Ikon is a charity that depends on the generosity of visitors, patrons and businesses. Support us today and help keep Ikon free.
In 1964, the generosity of an extraordinary couple, Angus and Midge Skene, enabled a small group of artists to realise their dream of starting a gallery dedicated to showing contemporary art. Thus Ikon was born, an artist-run gallery staffed by volunteers.
Since then Ikon has gone from strength to strength, earning its reputation today for innovation, internationalism and excellence. The gallery plays a vital role in Birmingham’s cultural life, with a wide ranging programme of exhibitions, off-site projects and extensive education and outreach work.
Ikon is a registered charity and as such, needs to raise funds each year from a range of sources including trusts and foundations, corporate sponsorship, individual supporters and our trading activities, alongside its core funding as one of the Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisations. All profits are re-invested into supporting artists and education activities.
Ikon is registered with the Fundraising Regulator so please give with confidence. Thank you for your support.
