Anya Gallaccio
British artist Anya Gallaccio, who exhibited at Ikon in the spring of 2003, worked with pupils from Year 7 at George Dixon International, one of Birmingham’s largest and most culturally diverse inner city schools, to develop ideas for the planning of an edible schoolyard.
Anya and fellow artist Ashley McCormick delivered a series of workshops based upon growing and cooking food, looking at aspects of history and culture. These were followed in May 2003 by an open day for 180 Year 7 pupils, where Anya, Ashley and six other artists led creative sessions. Activities ranged from seed planting to rangoli art.
