Artist. Mother. Teacher. Rebel.
Nonagenarian artist Audrey Flack has always been a trailblazer. Her career, often controversial, evolved from abstract expressionism in the 50s to photorealism in the 70s – a movement Flack pioneered, as the only woman working in photorealism at the time.
Queen of Hearts: Audrey Flack (2019), by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Deborah Shaffer, is an uplifting, intimate and moving portrait of an artist returning to the canvas for the first time in decades. The documentary follows Flack as she takes her work in a new direction – still testing, still experimenting, still searching.
The film is followed by a pre-recorded Q&A with Audrey Flack and Deborah Shaffer, hosted by Jonathan Watkins, Ikon Director.
This event is organised to coincide with Audrey Flack’s exhibition, After Crivelli, at Ikon Gallery (23 February – 29 May 2022).
Organised in partnership with Flatpack Film Festival – this event is part of the 16th Flatpack Festival, popping up across Birmingham from 17-22 May with a jampacked programme of screenings and events. See the full programme here.
