
Artist’s Talk: Mahtab Hussain with Guy Gunaratne
Join us for an artist’s talk with Mahtab Hussain and Guy Gunaratne, a British novelist and playwright, during which they discuss their collaborative film Here is the Brick (2025) in Hussain’s current Ikon exhibition and his wider artistic practice. This event includes a book signing with Mahtab Hussain.
Mahtab Hussain’s exhibition What Did You Want To See? (20 March – 1 June) is commissioned by Ikon and Photoworks and supported by the John Feeney Charitable Trust and Freelands Foundation.
About the speakers
British artist Mahtab Hussain explores the important relationship between identity, heritage and displacement. His themes develop through long-term research articulating a visual language that challenges the prevailing concepts of multiculturalism.
Guy Gunaratne is a British novelist and playwright. Winner of the Dylan Thomas Prize, the Jhalak Prize and longlisted for the Booker, Goldsmith’s and the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction.
