About the book
Still Walking is a programme of guided tours and adventurous walking events which take place around Birmingham. During the first 2020 lockdown, Ben Waddington realised he would not be leading any walks for a while, and so began writing 111 Places in Birmingham That You Shouldn’t Miss instead.
The aim of the book is to tell Birmingham’s story through its art, architecture, music, industrial history and cultural diversity, showcasing the city’s triumphs while embracing its gritty side. Readers are invited to explore the region’s public art, bold and brutal planning experiments, watery heritage, industrial remnants, Sherlock Holmes clues, Italian connections, mosaics, demons, bridges, tunnels and public seating.
