Cherry Blossom Workshop

Celebrating its 60th year, Ikon invites families to a free creative workshop. Join artists Taiba Akhtar and Danielle Leonie Phelps to create a unique screen print in response to the vibrant springtime display of cherry blossom in Oozells Square.

Taking inspiration from the Japanese tradition of blossom-viewing festivals and picnics, participants choose a design and print a mini-poster in their choice of colours, to reflect the fleeting beauty and symbolism of the Sakura season. Suitable for all ages.

This event is followed by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group’s Cherry Blossom Concert, 3-4pm.

Ikon Gallery and Shop are open as usual.

Start the Press!
The centrepiece of Start the Press! is a vintage, flatbed printing press from Wolverhampton School of Art, taking its position in the gallery as a form of protest or occupation in the tradition of the student art-school sit-ins of the 1960s, and in response to the current challenging economic landscape. A cohort of West Midlands printmakers will operate the press, producing original prints and filling the gallery walls as work is made in real time.
