Cherry Blossom Workshop & Art Picnic
Join us as we follow the Japanese tradition of Cherry Blossom viewing and host a free art picnic on Oozells Square.
Visitors can enjoy a range of free art activities which take inspiration from Japan’s rich history of graphic art and design. Create your own cherry blossom ‘sakura’ print to take home or grab a brush and easel to paint a seasonal masterpiece of Ikon Gallery amongst the cherry blossoms in a session led by artist Bag Lord.
Yorks Cafe at Ikon is open, serving a range of delicious food and drink.
This event is followed by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group’s Cherry Blossom Concert, 3-4pm. Free entry. Ikon Gallery and Shop are open as usual.
This event is supported by Brindleyplace.
About the artist
Bag Lord is an artist and Head Propagandist for the ‘People’s Republic of the West Midlands’. Specialising in painting and drawing, their work explores the myth and politics of the everyday; through symbolism and fantastical narratives they weave together a critical and colourful response to living in end time capitalism.
Bag Lord graduated with a BA from Edinburgh University in Painting and Drawing, and a MA in Fine Art from Birmingham City University. Bag Lord has exhibited across the region, including Coventry Biennial, RBSA Gallery and Ikon Gallery and curated at Wolverhampton Art Gallery where they have work in the permanent collection. Bag Lord’s work can be found at Stryx Commercial Gallery, at Moonraven Gallery’s current exhibition Bostin Midlands Painters, and on Channel 4’s Late Night Lycett.
