Dean Kelland: Catch Back the Breeze

Film Screening

For one day, Ikon screens Dean Kelland’s film, Catch Back the Breeze (2022), produced as part of his artist’s residency at HMP Grendon.

This screening is organised to coincide with Kelland’s exhibition Imposter Syndrome (20 September – 22 December 2023). Nick London, a writer for Inside Time, wrote about the film for the exhibition catalogue:

“In the film Catch Back the Breeze a lone figure is seen pacing a large prison exercise yard. As they round the far corner a foreboding succession of fences looms large, and the man pulls the shapeless overcoat tight against the biting breeze. His directional options are informed as much by physical obstacle as by suffocating expectation, whilst the encircling soundscape adds to the growing claustrophobia.”

Visitors are invited to watch the film before our free talk later that day: Dean Kelland in conversation with Sue Tate, which takes place 5-6pm.

This event is organised as part of Art at HMP Grendon and is supported by the Marie-Louise von Motesiczky Charitable Trust.
