Family Saturday

with Callie Derbyshire

Join artist Callie Derbyshire at a free workshop and make a postcard of your favourite Birmingham landmark or create your own ‘map’ of Birmingham.

This creative session is inspired by Htein Lin’s new painting How do you find Birmingham? (2024), a vibrant panorama of the city which includes many well-known landmarks. This work is on display in Htein Lin’s current exhibition at Ikon, Escape (20 March – 1 June).

This exhibition is supported by the British Council through the Connections Through Culture grants programme and ai. gallery.

About the artist

Callie Derbyshire is a Birmingham-based multidisciplinary artist and writer whose work centres around exploring local history through visual storytelling.

Ikon presents a major solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Htein Lin from Myanmar. Evoking his lifelong commitment to documenting human experience in difficult times, it shows a comprehensive selection of the artist’s paintings made while he was a political prisoner from 1998 to 2004 on prison uniforms and found textile, alongside drawing, sculpture, video and new work.
