Family Saturday
Join artists Vic Moyosola and Sadie Barnett for an interactive photography and ‘framing’ session inspired by their showcase exhibition (Re)Coded.
In this workshop families are invited to have their own family photograph taken before decorating a frame. Families can use a variety of techniques including printmaking, collage and reflective writing to encase their portrait.
About (Re)Coded
Ikon, in partnership with the Conjunctures strand of the Stuart Hall Archive Project (University of Birmingham), presents (Re)Coded, a collaborative research project which shares perceptions of data collection, use, dissemination and how these are understood and acted upon by Birmingham’s inner-city Caribbean diasporic communities. The exhibition (31 October – 17 November) presents Vic Moyosola’s photographic portraits of project participants, alongside their own creative output made during community workshops with artist-educator Sadie Barnett.
About the Artists
Vic Moyosola is a self-taught photographer and storyteller whose work explores themes of community, identity, the beauty in connection and Black joy. In her efforts to highlight these themes she aims to show how important vulnerability is, using art to heal self and others.
Sadie Barnett is a Birmingham-based visual artist, writer and facilitator who runs workshops which encourage personal reflection, focus on the process of healing and explore the transformative power of arts and crafts. Barnett explores themes of mental health, Queerness and romance in their illustrations published under the moniker bitsketchyinit.
