Friendship and Onomatopoeia: Participatory Art in Action
Join students and staff from Birmingham City University (MA Fine Art at Birmingham School of Art) for a free drop-in workshop which engages and interacts with Niek van de Steeg’s artwork Structure de correction, table de débat (c. 2000).
MA Fine Art students respond to Ikon’s exhibition Friends in Love and War – L’Éloge des meilleur·es ennemi·es and its theme of friendship, exploring this theme as a layered and dynamic experience. Working across drawing, collage and typography and using the framework of onomatopoeia, the students reimagine friendship as an evolving, participatory act.
Birmingham City University is supporting Ikon through BCU Tuesdays, an innovative new partnership which enables the gallery to open on Tuesdays for a year (October 2024 – September 2025). Learn more here.
Friends in Love and War – L’Éloge des meilleur·es ennemi·es is supported by the British Council and is presented as part of UK/France Spotlight on Culture 2024 Together We Imagine, with additional support from Fluxus Art Projects and Birmingham City University.
