Gathering Press on Slow Boat
Join Gathering Press on board Slow Boat in Wolverhampton for a free workshop responding to the architecture and nature of the city’s canal network.
By experimenting with techniques of mono-screen printing and trace mono-printing, participants have the opportunity to produce their own impressions of place.
This workshop is designed for young people aged 16-25. Guardian consent is required for any attendees under 18.
This event is supported by Freelands Foundation. With the support of Freelands Foundation, over three years (2021-24) Ikon Youth Programme (IYP) navigates the waterways on board Slow Boat, a converted narrow boat. IYP are collaborating with creative thinkers and makers to reimagine Slow Boat as a local art school.
About the artist
Gathering Press is an ongoing project and mobile screen-printing unit by artist Laura Onions. Designed to open temporary messy and creative space, the project considers how the narratives of place may be translated through making together. Drawing upon ideas of social sculpture, feminist geographies and printmaking collectives, the press allows exploration into what might happen when printmaking is unhinged from a single location.
