Kadialy Kouyaté Trio
This event is presented as part of Refugee Week 2022
Kadialy Kouyaté is a Senegalese songwriter and kora (calabash harp) player. Performing with his trio of bass, percussion and kora, Kouyaté draws on traditional songs from his West African griot heritage (storytelling and music) to create mesmerising compositions.
Prepare yourself to be swept away by the kora, a complex and versatile instrument, that can weep, sing and bring you to your feet to dance. The addition of Kouyaté’s gentle voice makes for an engaging performance.
Kadialy Kouyaté has played at venues and festivals around the world, released several albums and appeared on radio and television, including Later with Jools Holland and BBC Focus on Africa.
Celebrating Sanctuary Birmingham’s Refugee Week Festival happens each year in June, celebrating the contribution and resilience of refugees in the UK, and sharing their stories, campaigns and culture.
