Paper-making workshop
Join artist and printmaker Danielle Phelps on Slow Boat for a paper-making workshop exploring cyclical processes within arts education. Please note this event is aimed at young people aged 16-25.
Together we recycle paper waste into bespoke handmade paper, extending the longevity of our workshop materials, allowing us to consider how each creative activity can feed into the next. Participants are encouraged to bring along their own paper waste to be repurposed and reimagined.
This event is supported by Freelands Foundation. With renewed funding from Freelands Foundation for three years (2024-2027), Ikon Youth Programme (IYP) continue to activate a converted narrowboat, Slow Boat, as an alternative art school.
About the artist
Danielle Phelps is a multidisciplinary artist and workshop facilitator based in Birmingham. They make handmade papers by repurposing their artistic work and collective waste streams through independent and collaborative methods. This process gives rise to consciousness around materiality, highlighting the beauty and value in the waste we discard. Recent collaborative projects include; Start the Press! with Stirchley Print Works at Ikon Gallery; Everything In The Forest Is The Forest with Birmingham photographer Clare Hewitt; Go West Gathering in association with Eastside Projects EOP, Spike Island and G39. As a STEAMhouse UK Artist Member they have developed 2D/3D paper and print processes.
