Slow Boat and IYP join local residents to celebrate the annual Tipton Canal & Community Festival.
Slow Boat is an innovative three-year project (2011–2013) set up to explore an in-depth, sustained way of working with young people aged between 15 and 19. The project involves the Ikon Youth Programme (IYP), a group of Birmingham-based young people who produce, present and promote their own work as well as that of other artists onboard a converted canal boat that measures 72 feet in length.
This summer we are delighted to work with Navin Rawanchaikul, a Thai-Indian artist who has devised Navinland, a borderless community that celebrates personal identity, nationality and our understanding of place and home. Slow Boat sails from Birmingham travelling east to Nottingham, Loughborough, Leicester and Coventry looking for new members of Navinland. We need you!
Meet Navin Rawanchaikul and IYP at our summer events, join Navinland at www.ikonslowboat.com and follow us on Twitter @ikonslowboat
Slow Boat Summer 2013 is organised in collaboration with the Canal & River Trust and Sampad South Asian arts.
Founded in 2011, Navinland is an ongoing collaborative platform, operated by the artist’s studio Navin Production. The project has been developed from the Navin Party (2006–2008 with the collaboration of Tyler Russell). www.navinproduction.com
