Spotlight Tour with Kyel Sin Lin

Join curator Kyel Sin Lin for a 30-minute spotlight tour focused on her father Htein Lin’s new large-scale painting Fiery Hell (2024), which portrays the plight of Myanmar’s rural populations, including ethnic and religious minorities, caught up in the ongoing civil war. The work is on display in his solo exhibition Escape (20 March – 1 June).

This exhibition is supported by the British Council through Connections Through Culture grants programme and ai. gallery 

About the speaker

Kyel Sin Lin is the CEO and curator of Coming From Kalaw (CFK), a community-based art company in Southern Shan State, Myanmar. With a background in architecture, curation, and nonprofit management, she leads initiatives supporting local artists, preserving cultural heritage and advancing accessible art education through the CFK_Art Fund. 

Kyel Sin Lin’s curatorial work includes Resilience in Shadows: Art Amidst Adversity (Kuala Lumpur, 2024), CFK’s first international exhibition. In 2024, she was selected for the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) by the U.S. Department of State, fostering global connections for Myanmar’s art scene.

Ikon presents a major solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Htein Lin from Myanmar. Evoking his lifelong commitment to documenting human experience in difficult times, it shows a comprehensive selection of the artist’s paintings made while he was a political prisoner from 1998 to 2004 on prison uniforms and found textile, alongside drawing, sculpture, video and new work.
