This exhibition was a survey of Suzanne Treister’s work. Treister uses very simple things; objects, surfaces, structures, deceptively, using them to tease us and play with our perceptions. Treister’s objects float in space without visible means of support, giving them a dream-like quality. They create strong patterns on the canvas, usually symmetrical and grid-like. Video games featured prominently in Treister’s work of the 1990s as they came to represent the post-modern world where everything is an imitation, copy or recording of something else.
