Ikon presents newly commissioned London based, Brazilian artist Lucia Nogueira, who works with minimal materials to create sculptures and installations of extraordinary poignancy, resonant with emotional contradictions and confrontations. The apparent modesty of the materials Nogueira uses belie the work’s expressive potency. Nogueira has the power to lift mundane material from the real world and invest it with a powerful presence. In this exhibition her objects often have a secretive air yet there is also an undercurrent of menace with displaced objects taking on a ritualistic aspect.
