Bridget Riley

According to Sensation

Ikon presents According to Sensation, an opportunity to see current paintings by one of Britain’s foremost artists. In the 1960’s Bridget Riley’s black and white Op Art paintings caused a sensation. Since then, she has been selected for several major public exhibitions. In 1968 she was the first contemporary British painter to win the International Prize for her painting at the Venice Biennale. Her paintings have been copied by the fashion and media industries on both sides of the Atlantic. For Bridget Riley the 1980’s was a period of dramatic change. A visit to Egypt in the winter of 1979-80, resulted in a new approach for her work and a brighter palette. The exhibition title referred to this interesting shift in approach.
