Ikon presents Banners by Mali Morris, an off-site installation organised to coincide with Calling, her solo exhibition of paintings at the gallery.
Colourful banners, designed by Morris, adorn the façade of Ikon’s iconic Victorian school building, and further banners welcome visitors to the entrance spaces at Birmingham City University’s School of Art, Margaret Street, B3 3BX and Coventry School of Art and Design, Priory Street, CV1 5FB. The motif explored in Morris’ Banners relate to her painting on canvas, Rain In Durango II (2015), included in Ikon’s exhibition.
Ikon’s display follows Mali Morris’ 2022 presentation Banners for Bond Street by the Royal Academy and Art in Mayfair. When the banners came down, the artist arranged for most of them to be donated to charities, including Maggie’s centres and Ikon Gallery.
