Ikon presents artist Alison Wilding’s first major exhibition in the Midlands. Wilding has recently been shortlisted for the Turner prize. this exhibition brings together sculptures from various stages in Wilding’s distinguished career, and particularly those concerned with the theme of the body. As the title Bare suggests, the exhibition features works which are both bold and vulnerable. Wilding combines metal, wood, coloured pigments, stone and cloth, making unusual and atmospheric forms. In the exhibition catalogue, Hilary Gresty writes, Alison Wilding’s work…has tested the relationship between the self and the rest of the world. Edges, boundaries, the relationship of one thing to another, the visible and the concealed, the intimate and the public, the contained and the unimagined, ambiguity, balance and rhythm – all becomes part of her sculptural language.
