Ikon presents Distant Relations, an exciting international exhibition of contemporary Chicano, Irish and Mexican art, accompanied by a film programme, music, an extensive education programme and a catalogue of contemporary writing. Ireland and Mexic0 are located on different sides of the globe and may seem very different. Yet, as modern nations, they have experienced similar patterns in their historic development and in their contemporary reality. Both developed in the shadow of the USA and the UK. This exhibition explores some of the cultural manifestations of these shared experiences, facilitating dialogue between visual artists, composers and photographers from both cultures.
Artists include: Willie Doherty, David Fox, Javier de la Gaza, Silvia Gruner, Frances Hegarty, John Kindness, Alice Maher, Daniel J Martinez, Amalia Mesa-Bains, Philip Napier, Rubén Ortiz Torres and John Valadez.
Distant Relations is curated by Trisha Ziff and produced in association with Camden Arts Centre and the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
