Following Mit Jai Inn’s exhibition at Ikon Gallery (15 September – 21 November 2021), Dreamworld now travels to MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum, Chiang Mai for a year-long presentation.
Titled Dreamworld #dreammantra, the exhibition explores the healing and social power of art through vibrant works that can be touched, walked through, stepped on and taken away. Highlighting Mit’s belief in the ‘living’ nature of painting, it transforms MAIIAM’s galleries into spaces for dwelling, interacting and creating.
Works include Dream Tunnel (2021) and Midlands Dwelling (2021); a new iteration of the participatory project, #dreammantra (2023); and Pond (2023), a pool of glittering water, scraped impasto, paint pigments and 100 floating papier mâché objects. A new series of light sculptures, Marking Light (2023), is inspired by bai sema; stone tablets found in ancient Buddhist temples, used to designate space for religious rituals.
Curated by Kittima Chareeprasit, Curator, MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum, and Melanie Pocock, Acting Artistic Director, Exhibitions, Ikon.
