History and Memory in the Art of Gordon Bennett

Ikon presents major show of paintings by artist Gordon Bennett that spanned over ten years of the artist’s career, including over sixty paintings in acrylic, oil, watercolour, gouache and mixed media. One of Australia’s leading contemporary artists, Bennett uses humour and irony to explore unspoken histories and challenge established truths. At once personal and political, his work examines issues of race relations, identity and nationhood and questions conventional notions of modern art. Filling both the first and second floors of the galleries, ‘History and Memory in the Art of Gordon Bennett’ offers a challenging, poignant and contemplative exhibition for the new millennium.

Organised in collaboration with Henie Onstad Kunstsenter in association with Brisbane City Art Gallery.
