Ikon presents the first retrospective exhibition in the UK of work by New Zealand artist Len Lye (1901–1980). Comprising film, sculpture, painting and drawing, often influenced by indigenous Antipodean traditions, it reveals the optimism and emphasis on invention central to Lye’s outlook on life.

In Autumn 2008 Ikon Gallery began Ikon Insiders, a three year project with three Birmingham primary schools; St George’s CE Primary and St. Thomas CE Primary, Ladywood and Osborne Primary, Erdington. Involving over 850 children, aged 3-11 years, and almost 60 teaching and support staff, Insiders was devised to increase the confidence of both children and teachers in accessing galleries and responding creatively to contemporary art.
