This survey exhibition by artist Tony Phillips, presents etchings and drawings as thoughtful commentaries on modern culture. Phillips’ remarkable series of etchings focuses on the moment music was born from the trials of black people in slavery; and the flappers white musicians of the 1920s who enjoyed and developed black music traditions. Tony Phillips’ work features in many public collections. His History of the Benin Bronzes featured in the exhibition, Shocks to the System, 1991.
