The character Juanito Laguna – Chilean folk-hero, anarchist and transvestite – plays a starring role in this exhibition by artist Juan Davila. The artist sets Laguna on a fictional journey from his South American homeland to England, by way of Australia. This trip echoes Davila’s own travels and provides the artist with a rich and varied source of imagery which he uses to explore notions of identity. Large figurative works on canvas, found objects and wall paintings, combined with a selection of 3-D images (complete with special viewing glasses) to create a complex and intriguing installation.
