Mama Casset from Senegal and Seydou Keita from Mali have been engaged in studio Portraiture since the 1940s, building an exceptional vision of society. This is the first opportunity to see their work in Britain. This exhibition places their extraordinary images alongside new work by three prominent Black British photographers. In collaboration with Autograph, the association of Black Photographers, new work commissioned by Oladele Ajiboye Bamgboye, Ingrid Pollard and Maxine Walker. Using video projections, sound, lightboxes and large scale black and white prints, the artists attempt to break down the popular misrepresentation and stereotypes perpetuated in the mass media.
