Ikon Eastside, 183 Fazeley Street, Digbeth, B5 5SE
Contemporary dance and visual art were presented simultaneously in The Collection, an installation at Ikon Eastside which explored the interface between these two art forms.
Minutes, a new piece created by Siobhan Davies with Catherine Bennett, Matteo Fargion, Henry Montes, Deborah Saxon and Matthias Sperling considers how movement can be conceived beyond stage productions.
Performed continuously for four hours each day by five dance artists, Minutes was presented as a series of short, detailed, powerful and often humorous episodes.
The dance is punctuated by a new work by artist Anri Sala, A Solo in the Doldrums, in which a drum is programmed to play to the sound of an unseen dance previously performed by Siobhan Davies. The audience is encouraged to move around the space in close proximity to the dancers, creating their own time-frame and perspective of the work.
The Custard Factory, Digbeth
As part of The Collection, a new film installation by Idris Khan and Sarah Warsop Lying in Wait was presented in the dance studio at The Custard Factory. Formed of layered movement, the images travel between three screens. Co-commissioned by Siobhan Davies Dance and Victoria Miro Gallery. This performance included strong language.
