Al Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art, Jerusalem Riwaq, Ramallah

Gestures in Time is an exhibition presented by Lara Khaldi and Katya Garcia-Anton, curators of the Jerusalem Show and Riwaq Biennial. Work by over 25 artists, many from Palestine and the Middle East, considers the possibilities of ‘the gesture’. In 2007 Ikon’s contribution to The Second Riwaq Biennale was an installation of ‘date paintings’ by On Kawara in a kindergarten in Bethleham. This year our collaboration results in a major new work by renowned British artist Cornelia Parker. Consisting of suspended lengths of found timber it refers to the building of walls, literally and metaphorically, that inhibit the possibility of constructive dialogue.
