When artists depict landscapes or cityscapes, they project their outlook on the world, their sense of place (or displacement), their hopes and anxieties. The artists that took part in The Lie of the Land made images of very different kinds of places and their methods were equally distinct. The artists in this exhibition shared a concern for the quality of life, the crucial symbiosis between people and the world we inhabit.
