Events Room
Ikon welcomes The Office of Useful Art to Birmingham. Visitors are invited to join the Asociación de Arte Útil (Useful Art Association), a membership organisation that promotes and implements Arte Útil or Useful Art.
The Asociación, initiated by Cuban artist Tania Bruguera in 2012 has evolved into a growing international movement, promoting ways in which art can imagine, create and implement socially beneficial outcomes.
For Ikon The Office of Useful Art is a place to take part in workshops and discussions, a place to read, listen, join in debates or make things. A daily programme of activities will be listed on the website in the events calendar. The Office will be open for visitors to use as a communal lunch space with tea made from a tea urn designed by Jeremy Deller and Alan Kane every day 12.30-1.30pm.
During 2014–2015 the Useful Art Association will develop useful art initiatives in four locations with MIMA, Tate Liverpool, Ikon Gallery and Grizedale Arts plus European partners.
