Ikon presents an exhibition of new sculpture and paintings by Birmingham based artists Angelina May Davis, Yan Fletcher, Steve Payne and Ivan Smith. The artists are presented as modern-day alchemists whose work aimed to enlighten and entertain. Objects were changed before the eyes as debris and cast-offs from industry, commerce and domesticity were made strange. Wry comments on our consumerist culture animated ecological pleas, and quirky retorts to the media provided a timely reflection of contemporary society in the 1990s.
