V-topia – Visions of a Virtual World

Ikon presents group exhibition of interactive video and multi-media art that took an imaginative look at the world of new technology. Richard Land’s Mirror Image presented innocent reflections of the onlooker, to showing increasingly distorted versions of the face peering into the screen. John and Paul Butler’s video and the computer illustration The Dream of Freedom took a satirical gaze at high-tech home shopping and entertainment systems. Graham Ellard and Stephen Johnstone’s Passagen project large, interactive panoramas of London, Berlin and Paris which provide an experience of virtual travel. While embracing a range of electronic media and incorporating innovation interactive elements, these artists maintain a critical attitude towards their chosen media.
