Art workshop in Tipton

Tuesday

The boat arrived in Tipton and we moored up in a nice space under the shadow of a big tree. We prepared art materials for painting including paintbrushes, crayons, pencils, paper and markers: everything you need to enjoy a lovely day in the park!

Everyone who attended the event was encouraged to paint or draw things about nature taking inspiration from the place we were in or from the books that we had. We collected some leaves and we started to watch and observe the leaf shapes, their colours and consistency.

The session was attended by many young families and children who painted squirrels, some gorgeous butterflies and beautiful animals. We also painted leaves with water colours and printed them on the paper and then we did the same action with our hands – we discovered that the leaf is quite similar to the human hand!

Friday

On Friday we come back in the same space in the park and we did the same workshop with different children and families. We spent the afternoon painting all together and we discovering new things about nature and animals.

We hosted a group of children and staff from a nearby nursery. The children were 3 and 4 years old. When they saw the boat in the canal they were really happy and excited! They also explored the inside of the boat with the massive sculptures by artists Juneau Projects. When they get off the boat we spoke about nature and animals and they started to draw their favourite animal. At the end of the session we pasted the artworks on the boat and we had some beautiful dogs, a frog, some really funny chickens, one cat with stars for eyes and a tiger and an elephant eating a carrot.

See you soon,
Giulia
