Black Country Voyages in Stourbridge
Between Monday 18 and Friday 22 August we were moored alongside the Red House Glass Cone, Stourbridge.
Kate Self and Sarah Fereday (glass artist) ran a week-long summer camp for young people with the purpose of completing a Bronze Arts Award.
Throughout the week the boat was open for people to visit and make a painting. We chatted with people, we painted and drew things about canal nature and we spent good time together.
Some of the people returned every day during the week to do more painting and drawing and at the end of the week we collected a lot of beautiful and interesting paintings that will be used to decorate the Juneau Projects sculptures.
On Friday Ben and Phil from Juneau Projects was joined us and they led the workshop and talked with people about the project that they are doing.
People enjoyed relaxing and to painting with us on the boat. Now in our collection we have a lot of beautiful butterflies, lovely birds and nice animals, flowers and plants.
We spent really a lovely week in a lovely place as the glass cone is. In fact, inside it, it is possible to see the fuse glass demonstration by glass artists, to visit the museum with gorgeous glass tools and to take a little walk around it.
This was my last time on the boat because my internship finishes this week. Saying goodbye to the boat and the project I realised that I spent a really great and precious time on it doing great things, getting to know really interesting people and cruising around the Black Country – a truly fascinating place!
