Cherry blossom photography competition

Are there any budding photographers out there? Brindleyplace has launched a special photography competition in partnership with Ikon and Café Opus at Ikon that aims to celebrate the traditional Japanese festival of Hanami. An annual event, Hanami is the Japanese tradition of ‘enjoying the transient beauty of flowers’ and is celebrated to coincide with the flowering of cherry blossom across the country.

Those interested in entering must submit one photograph that they feel captures the beauty of the cherry blossom in Oozells Square in Brindleyplace. The winner will have their photo displayed in Café Opus at Ikon following the competition, as well as winning a meal for two.

Photos must be submitted by Sunday 13th April for judging to take place the following week. The photos will be judged by:

  • Stuart Tulloch, Ikon Curator
  • Amy Secretan, Manager at Café Opus overlooking Oozells Square
  • Pete James, Curator of Photography Collections at Library of Birmingham
  • Dan Morrissey, regional network presenter on Free Radio
