Meet our new Curator & Curatorial Fellow
We caught up with the new members of Ikon’s Exhibitions team: Daphne Chu, Curator and Amrit Sanghera, Curatorial Fellow (supported by the Frieze x Deutsche Bank Emerging Curators Fellowship).
Please tell us a bit about yourself…
Daphne: After over a decade working in the arts while based in Taipei, I moved to the UK to give myself time and space to read and reflect on my work so far, as I pursued a postgraduate degree in curating. Immersing myself in a culture different from the one I grew up in felt essential… I think being in that space of curiosity and attention opens you up to new perspectives, which is a great place to be.
Amrit: I’m an artist, foodie and book worm, as well as many other things and not necessarily in that order! I describe my art practice as a changing landscape, interested in unearthing untold narratives and histories to forge new pathways of solidarity, understanding and being.
What have your highlights been so far working at Ikon/living in the city?
Daphne: Definitely my Ikon colleagues! The passion, dedication and care they bring to the work they do is endlessly inspiring and gives me such hope.
Amrit: My highlights so far have been meeting with artists and other arts workers based in the Midlands, which has helped me get a better sense of the arts ecosystem here as I was working in London previously. I’ve also really enjoyed getting to know the area by walking along the canals, exploring the local parks and green spaces.
What are you looking forward to in 2025?
Daphne: There is an incredible line-up of exhibitions and programmes for the year ahead! I’m especially looking forward to collaborating with and learning from the team and the artists, makers and thinkers who bring these projects to life.
Amrit: In 2025 I’m looking forward to getting involved in public programmes, learning, listening and connecting with people – both personally and professionally.
