From Pit to Pot

Saturday

In Saltwells Nature Reserve we spent a wonderful day.

First of all, we set up all the materials for the workshop, we decorated the space with some bunting and we enjoyed the amazing natural landscapes of the clay pit.

In one space Phil and Ben from Juneau Projects were working with people to explore nature of the Black Country offering the possibility to draw or paint a favourite animal or plant. Next to them was Julia who explained to people a lot of interesting things about clay and taught children and adults how to model their personal cups and saucers.

Duncan was in the valley near the pit and he prepared the space to set up a gorgeous installation: every pot made from people was put on a bamboo stick and placed in to the group in amongst the surrounding flowers and plants.

The installation grew throughout the day and in the end we saw the results: an extraordinary union of materials from nature (clay) and human tools (cups).

The cups were left in situ and will remain until disintegration back in to the earth.

A lot of families came and we spent a lovely afternoon together drawing, painting, modelling clay and enjoying nature.
