Koestler Awards 2020
By James Latunji-Cockbill, Producer – Art at HMP Grendon
This year’s Koestler Awards include a number of awards for submissions from HMP Grendon. We are delighted to receive a Platinum award for a submission of ten prints made in workshops at Grendon at the beginning of the year, under the instruction of Dr Simon J Harris (Course Leader for Undergraduate Fine Art at the University of Wolverhampton) and Ikon’s artist-in-residence, Dean Kelland. Some of the etchings refer to religion, the passing of time and the prisoners’ right to vote as well as popular culture and imagery from art books borrowed from the artist’s studio.
