School Visits To Friends in Love and War exhibition
By Will Kew, Education Coordinator
Ikon’s winter exhibition, Friends in Love and War – L’Éloge des meilleur·es ennemi·es, was visited by 15 Primary schools, 23 Secondary schools, 7 SEND schools and 19 University groups. In addition we welcomed 10 visits by community and adult learners and hosted 6 family and early years activities and 3 teacher CPD sessions.
During this time we were grateful to artists Tereza Bušková, and Pogus Caesar and regional artist educators, who enthusiastically delivered regular creative sessions. Students made zines and plasticine models, experimented with printmaking, wrote manifestos on friendship and even created mini art installations and interventions in the gallery.

In addition, the first BCU Tuesdays partnership sessions took place, designed and delivered by students from the MA Fine Art and MA Arts Education Practices courses at the School of Art, Birmingham City University.

The theme of ‘friendship’ was a very engaging topic to begin discussions and the exhibition also gave us opportunities to address topics such as conflict, rivalries, loneliness and collaboration.
With approximately 2,500 educational visitors, this has been one of our busiest exhibitions to date and we look forward to continuing our education programme in the spring.
