Join us this Saturday as we celebrate the 1990s. Ikon continues its series of events focusing on the five decades of the gallery’s history and the social, political and cultural context, including talks, debates and film screenings.
Our fourth event in this series celebrates the 1990s. A full day of talks, screenings and discussions includes:
- Illustrated talk – Dr Will Leggett, Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Birmingham, discusses how the spectre of globalisation and ‘new times’ dominated British politics and society in the 1990s
- Panel discussion – Ikon in the 1990s
- Archive session – an exploration of rarely seen material from the 1990s with Dr Chris Upton
- Screening – Made in Birmingham: Reggae, Punk, Bhangra includes interviews with Steel Pulse and UB40
- Screening – Flatpack Film Festival show Close-Up (1990) by revered Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, cert. U
